Refreshments and BBQ all day. Entry Fees: Players $10, Spectators $5 - all will be entered into a raffle. All proceeds will go to Motor Neurone Research Charity. We wish to acknowledge the support of Monash University who have waived the ground fees for the day.
Robert "Chicken" Howell
Chicken commenced playing hockey in 1955 as a 12 year old with the Powerhouse
Hockey Club Under 16 team, playing along side the likes of lifetime friends
George Manos, Des Piper & Rod Cooney. Chicken continued to play with Powerhouse Hockey Club during the 60's and Captained their first ever SL1 Premiership in 1966 and repeated it again 1969. He also served on the Powerhouse committee as the club secretary for a period of 6 years and is a life member of the club. In 1967 he was selected in the Australian team to tour New Zealand and was also selected in a home serries against England in Perth. In 1973 Chicken and Des Piper formed the Frankston Hockey Club, where he served as the club Secretary and coach for many years and is still regarded as their spiritual Leader. In the mid 80's Chicken changed from advising umpires from the field to becoming an umpire, where he umpired SL1 and other grades for a number of years. He served as an administrator in Victorian Hockey and was Vice President of the Victorian Hockey Association from 1992 - 2000. There is no doubting "Chicken was a legend in his life time".
